All across the United States, unwanted horses are loaded and start the long journey to Mexico or Canada for slaughter. It is so ugly and for many people, unknown. We hope we bring a little more awareness to this issue.

The Ugly and Unfair Side of Horses

In the dictionary, the definition of a horse is: "a large plant-eating domesticated mammal with solid hoofs and a flowing mane and tail, used for riding, racing, and to carry and pull loads".  That's what a horse is we guess, true, but it is also so much more.  Typically the horse is a flight or fight animal.  It's instincts are to self preserve since it is a prey animal.  When the human comes along and wants to interact, the horse is typically wary and has to learn to trust people.  The horse is a large animal and controllable if trained.  To us it is a cycle of trusting and training that builds the bond between humans and horses.  In the end, horses are dependent on either their freedom in the wild or trusting their human masters in captivity.  In the wild, nature rules and it can be ugly and fair.  In captivity, man rules and it can be extremely ugly and unfair.  All across the United States, unwanted horses are loaded and start the long journey to Mexico or Canada for slaughter.  It is so ugly and for many people, unknown.  We hope we bring a little awareness to unwanted and abused horses, thereby also helping people along the way too.  It's a win, win for horses and humans.  Stop the ugly and the unfair.
